Urban Forestry Collective
With the leadership of The Blueprint Foundation, Urban Greenspaces Institute is supporting them along with Portland State University - Sustaining Urban Places Research Lab, and The Nature Conservancy of Oregon to establish a regional urban forestry collaborative.
The Collective re-envisions how urban conservation can center BIPOC communities directly impacted by the climate crisis. With new understanding that BIPOC communities have lower access to the social and environmental benefits that trees provide, the Collective seeks to promote BIPOC businesses in new workforce development opportunities around urban tree planting and care. This program is one of Urban Greenspaces Institute’s major focus on advancing equity and environmental justice in the field of natural resource conservation in combination with economic development.
Incorporating Science-Based Decision-Making Tool
The collaborative supports development of decision support tools to optimize local urban forestry investment and management, and brings the community and agencies together to improve regional urban forestry management. The Collective is in start-up mode and will convene quarterly meetings beginning in 2021 to share information and coordinate cooperative ventures.
